Program:  A Year in Croatia
Olivia LeBlanc, Conifer Rotary Exchange Student

Our exchange student is home, and she dropped by the club this morning to tell us about her year as a Rotary Exchange Student in Croatia.  Olivia lived with three families over the year.  Her first week was spent traveling with her host family before school started.  We were treated to her photos of the many travels, the other exchange students and special places.

She traveled to 13 countries throughout her year and some of the most memorable included:
  • Salzburg for the Christmas festival
  • Zagreb, the capital of Croatia; which has one of the best Holiday Festivals in Europe.
  • Berlin, visited the remains of the Wall and the holocaust museum
  • Slovenija was a favorite city
  • Budapest in February
  • A week in the Netherlands
  • EuroTour with the other exchange students in May, to France, Italy, and Luxembourg
  • Then there was a Rotary Conference in May which included Rotarians from around the world
In Croatia, there were only 22 students in her class and developed close relationships with them.  Her study subjects included English, geography, art, chemistry, physics, biology.  Her biggest surprise: signs and labels are written in English as well as Croatian, which helped her to understand and learn their language.

She hopes to return to Croatia!
