Red Rocks Community College:  Did you Know?
  • RRCC ranks #1 in first year graduate incomes among all 13 community colleges in Colorado. 
  • They transfer more students into Colorado School of Mines than any other college in the nation. 
  • They offer a master’s degree program!
  • There are scholarships available—up to this year, $4 million to 2000 students.
  • There are two campuses: Lakewood and Arvada.  The Arvada campus is like a mini-hospital, with an x-ray program and sonograms, an out-patient clinic for physician assistant students,  and much more for medically interested students.
  • There have 12,000 students, including international students from 25 countries.
  • The programs are inexpensive:  Colorado students pay $137/credit.  Tuition and fees: $9,275 for 2-year degree!
  • There is free, unlimited tutoring. 
  • RRCC has an IDEA lab, open to all community members, offering problem-solving and innovative projects. 
  • The Gateway program offers programs for people coming from prison, helping them to find their passion and building on passion to create a new career.
  • The Rocky Mountain Education Center offers updates for OSHA up-dates. 
  • There is an H-VAC training program that is paid for by employers. The student pays $200, which is returned on successful completion.
  • High School students can take concurrent RRCC college classes, allowing them to earn college credits while still in high school.
  • GED and refresher courses are available.
  • There are community classes available for anyone in the community, as both degree and non-degree programs.

The President’s Business
  • The District needs a new Membership Chair; it is a marketing position.  Please contact Sandy at District 5450.
  • We will be increasing our dues by $5/quarter, starting July 2017. 
  • Carol Carper is starting a fund-raiser for a Global Grant.  This will provide potable water and other sustainable activities in Kenya.
  • President Finn is planning to engage the Club in a Visioning exercise.  More information coming.
  • We need new fund-raising ideas.  Finn is looking to bring vintage cars up the hill.  Let him know if you have other ideas.
  • Rotary Peak Hike will be Saturday, August 5.  We will need train stewards.  There are now hikes every Saturday;  there will be information at the trail- head about this project.
Rotary Announcements:
 
  • Peak to Peak has their All-In Charity Poker Tournament and Beer Tasting Casino day this Sunday, July 16,  12pm, at Isle Casino.  There will be a Beer tasting (Tommy Knocker beer).  The Poker tournament as well as instruction will be happening during the afternoon.  The buy-in is $100, plus $10 for the dealer.  First prize will be up to $2000.   Tickets are available at the door.
  • The Peach sale is going well;  please send money and order form directly to Angela.
  • We received thank you’s from two scholarship winners. 
  • The Center for the Arts in Evergreen need volunteers on Saturday and Sunday; please contact Ed Steinbrecker.
  • The PCCP Resale-Boutique is celebrating one year in business and is having a hot-dog party.  We need volunteers to assist in order to meet our partnership obligations for the money that will come to the 285 Back Pack Project.
  • Elevation Celebration July 29, 30 in Conifer.  Come and Celebrate!
