  • Rotary Peace Committee is working on a program around the 4Way Test and Peace-building.
    The class is $100, which includes materials and zoom and a private facebook group. Clubs can apply to be a “Peace Club”. There will be Rotarians from around the world. Denise will send the flyer to Bambi to be included on our website. The Ohio Rotarian providing the class: carlisandassociates@gmail.com. More information will be shared by Denise.
     
    Program: Conifer Rotary Foundation Grant Recipients
     
    Peaceworks: $2250. We are Advocacy---for the people we serve.
    Vision: Through advocacy and community education, PeaceWorks works toward the elimination of ALL forms of relationship violence, abuse and oppression with a focus on: intimate partner violence and abuse, sexual assault, teen dating violence, sex trafficking and stalking.
    PeaceWorks was started in 1984.
    • There is a safe shelter, safe pets, 24/7 crisis assistance, community awareness and education, mobile advocacy, peace and wellness line (719-619-2999).
    • In 2020, there were 22 community events with 265 attendees; shelter nights 1,624, serving 89 individuals, shelter to 31 pets, 435 crisis calls.
    • Staff include crisis advocates, SART coordinator, outreach coordinator, hot line, grant-writing.
    • New shower installs will be funded by the Rotary grant.
    • Rotarians are invited to request a tour to see the improvements at the shelter.
     
    West Jeff PTA, school teacher grants: $1250
    • They do one major fund-raiser a year primarily using physical /outdoor activities
    • Last year there was support for broadcast journalism at the school and an architecture project as part of their Colorado History Module as well as an area in the school to display kids’ artwork.
    • Rotary provided supplies that PTA could give to teachers for the students’ benefit.
    • The Rotary grants excite parents in the school to encourage fund-raising; Rotary has provided almost 30% of the funds requested by the teachers via the PTA.
    • This year, they purchased computer light-boxes; the science lab was able to get new supplies; supplies were provided for the Pride Alliance Club; a button maker, with buttons used as awards to kids; support for the robotics program.
