Announcements/Business:
- Rotary 101: Is today 7PM via Zoom. You can sign up on the district website. Email Beth Mendel if you can’t register the rest of today and she’ll give the link.
- Upcoming Events: Understanding our History on May 27th 7-8PM, Ethics and the Four Way test is June 3rd 6:30-7:30 PM, Rotary International virtual convention on June 12-16th
- Pass the Gavel: On June 26th. Tom will have pulled pork and BBQ chicken with a potluck for the rest. Guests are welcome!
- Evening Meetings: Starting in June, the evening meetings will be held on the 2nd and 4th Wednesdays of the month at 5:30 at Angela’s or the Our Lady of the Pine church if there is rain.
- Food Bank of the Rockies: The first shipment from the Food Bank of the Rockies is coming in this week. Thanks to Tom, Ruth and Arana for volunteering to help with pick-up!
- Scholarships: It was a good year where the Club was able to give out six scholarships to local highschool students. All of the students were so qualified and amazing it was very difficult to select the winners. Thanks to Suzanne, Stanley, Dean, and Amanda for working on the interviews!
- Virtual RYLA: We can go ahead and proceed and if the kids want to do it great, if not, then that’s understandable after a year of Zoom/zoom-fatigue. Diana and Suzanne will discuss and come back with more info.
- Foothills World Affairs Council: Stanley is a member of the Foothills World Affairs Council and is also on the board. Every year they do a contest called World Quest where highschool students go through and take a quiz on international issues. The winners go to Washington DC and there may be opportunity for participation from Conifer and Platte Canyon HS. Stanley will talk with Suzanne and will come back with more info.
- Guessing Jar Fundraiser: No entries yet. Morti tried multiple times and asked friends to do it too but ran into some issues so Leonor is going to take a look to see if there’s a larger issue going on. From there, we’ll extend this for another month.
Meeting Program: Alison Hedgepath from CASA of Jefferson and Gilpin Counties presenting on “CASA - 20 Years of Advocacy”
- Alison Hedgepath is with CASA - Court Appointed Special Advocates. Alison does outreach and recruitment to recruit all volunteers to interview and get them ready for training.
- The CASA mission is to assign trained volunteers to advocate in court for safety and well-being of abused and neglected children.
- Alison presented on how one may become a CASA volunteer, what the expectations are, and how volunteers are having a big impact on these children’s lives.
