Club Updates and Announcements:

285 Backpack Project: Need assistance with transporting food from the food bank in Denver to Deer Creek Elementary. There are lots of ways to help out so if interested please contact Bambi or Charlotte.

Member Survey: Lee sent out a survey to the club to get feedback on hybrid meetings now that we have been doing this for several weeks. If you haven’t completed this already, please do so!  Some of the feedback relates to sound quality on Zoom and being able to see people who are in person, so feel free to contact me directly if you have any ideas or want to share something specific with me!

License Plate Petition: Our District is working with District 5440 and 5470 to get 3,000 electronic signatures so a specialty Rotary license plate will be considered by the State Legislature.  Signing the petition does not require you to purchase a license plate. To sign the petition, please visit: https://www.rotary5470.org/Stories/co-rotary-license-plate-petition

Warren Miller Screening: A screening of this year's Warren Miller film "Winter Starts Now" will be held to raise money for the Conifer High School Interact Club. This will take place on December 11th at 6PM located at the Snowpack Taproom. For more info, and to buy tickets, go to https://rotaryconifer.org/.

November 30th: The month of November has 5 Tuesdays, so we will NOT have a meeting on Tuesday, November 30.

Bob Loeffler and Ray Anderson joined us for the meeting last week and they gave Amanda such wonderful feedback about their experience at our meeting.  Thanks to everyone who made this a special day!

Meeting Program: Leonor McCall-Rodriguez - What You Know Can Save You

  • Leonor shared her story about a diagnostic error she experienced in hopes that it may help other club members avoid these sometimes dire mistakes.
  • 12 million adults are misdiagnosed per year with 10-20% of those being patients with serious conditions.
  • Most commonly misdiagnosed are prostate cancer, thyroid cancer, and breast cancer.
  • Most people will receive an incorrect or late diagnosis at least once in their lives, sometimes leading to serious consequences.
  • 88% of patients who seek a second opinion leave with a refined or changed diagnosis.
  • A misdiagnosis can lead to:
    • Unnecessary treatments
    • Increased cost
    • Physical and emotional stress
    • Death
  • Save yourself:
    • Verify the diagnosis by seeking second opinions
    • Keep asking questions
    • Seek Answers
  • A copy of this presentation, along with other health notes shared by Leonor, can be found by clicking here
  • Thank you for sharing your story and for an informative presentation, Leonor!
