Announcements/Business

  • Dean reported that the quarterly Rotary Presidents’ meeting was held yesterday.
    • Our club is doing well by meeting on-line.
    • Clubs are finding ways to help their communities during this economic crisis.
    • Most District members are staying well.
    • The District Conference, RYLA, YRYLA, Youth Exchange and the RI International Conference are cancelled.
    • The District and Clubs are re-inventing ways to support our communities with funds that cannot be used as we planned before COVID-19.
    • The District plans to provide a separate RYLA event next year for this year’s kids.
    • RI is moving more functions online, expect more online services.
  • Congratulations to our newest member, Salesa Hancock.  We were unable to have an in-person meeting induction so we proclaimed her as an official member of the club today!  Salesa's husband is in the food supply industry and she warned us that there may be upcoming food shortages.  The COVID-19 shutdowns created a shortage of labor to harvest and move food, and several meat packing plants shut down.
  • Last month, Platte Canyon High School Interact Club delivered hundreds of coats and blankets to Halo’s Closet on West Colfax- a result of their collections in the Bailey area!
  • The speaker next week is Kip Otteson, teacher at Platte Canyon HS.  He sponsored a student group to build a boat and compete in the SEVENTY 48 BOAT RACE from Tacoma Washington to Port Townsend last summer.  The boat was a 40-foot outrigger canoe, powered only by paddles---and 18 kids.
  • We have 13 students who have applied for Conifer Rotary Scholarships.  Suzanne and Pat will be interviewing via Zoom.
  • Finn brought information about how Clubs can grow membership with videoconferencing as well as for clubs to have joint meetings, and share speaker presentations.  Our online world brought on by COVID-19 is yielding opportunities we had not anticipated before, including:
    • Enabling speaker programs originating anywhere!
    • Allow short-notice weather-cancelled meeting by videoconference.
    • Out of town member participation.
    • More opportunities to explore...
  • Thanks to all who are sewing and transporting masks for care-facilities in our area.  We made over 700!  Fifty masks are going to BackPack parents this week.
  • Janine continues to provide the on-line auction for the items that were part of the St. Patrick’s Day Dinner auction.  Bid using the email she sent.
    • St. Patrick's Day beer is still available.  Dean will re-send the information about how to access the beer from Finn.
